Reporting Requirements for Developmental Education
Education Commission of the States conducted a 50-state comparison and identified which states’ statutes include reporting requirements for developmental education. The scan revealed that 20 states have reporting requirements and data on student populations are the most frequently required information in states’ statutes. Student characteristics information includes data on recent high school graduates and the number or percentage of students who are enrolled in developmental courses. Other reporting requirements include student characteristics (e.g. developmental education needs and readiness), student success (e.g., successful completion of developmental and gateway courses), high school feedback data, and the cost of developmental education. This Points of Interest shows that fewer states have statutes requiring detailed reporting of developmental education data than those that do not.
