Co-requisite Mathematics Improves Long-term Outcomes

Improved completion rates in co-requisite statistics courses represent encouraging results for practitioners and researchers working to improve students' academic outcomes. However, a question that often arises is: Do learners who complete co-requisite statistics continue to pass other college-level mathematics courses. A study by Logue, Douglas, and Watanabe-Rose (2019) reports that, at the end of three years, students who took a co-requisite course passed 33.3% more college-level math courses than their peers who began in traditional developmental algebra: 272 and 204, respectively. Students assigned to co-requisite statistics even went on to pass precalculus and calculus I courses at higher rates than students assigned to the traditional model.
